The renovation and expansion of the Whidbey Island Center for the
Arts transformed a former road house into a fully functioning
community theatre.
Conceived as a village assembled of diverse
elements, the design features an outdoor lobby area to welcome
guests and visitors to Langley. A new scene shop means the crew no
longer has to build sets on the mainstage and take them out before
showtime each day. The green room, rehearsal hall, costume shops
and dressing rooms provide flexible, efficient space for actors,
crew, and community members to work together in professional quality
spaces.
PLACE prepared presentation models and renderings to support
the theatre’s successful capital campaign and to illustrate how the
addition will tie into the existing buildings and the greater
neighborhood.
Sustainable upgrades and initiatives as well as
efficient and creative space-planning has tremendously improved the
functionality of this community institution, while creating a
dramatic landmark for the City of Langley.
